A sole practitioner has handled a small-batch mustard maker's ongoing trademark matters for fifteen years without ever designating another lawyer to step in if something happened to the practitioner. The practitioner is now planning for retirement in a few years and asks whether any rule addresses this gap now, before any emergency arises.
